課程概述 |
This course offers an introduction to sociological social
psychology. We will examine how social structures
influence people’s perceptions and behavior, and how
social interaction occurs within cultural contexts. Social
constructionism, symbolic interactionism, and cross-
cultural perspectives will be emphasized throughout our
discussion. Since most students in this class major in
social work, we will also discuss applications of social
psychology in social work. |

課程目標 |
Students are encouraged to exercise sociological
imagination, develop critical thinking, and reveal the
social mechanism behind what we take for granted both in
everyday life and in the profession of social work. |

課程要求 |
1. 課程參與，10 % ( 50 points):
本課程之進行方式，前半部以演講為主，後半部則討論當週嬝疙樻
料。我會抽點同學上台報告當週的指定嬝炊撜飽A一次不到扣參與
分數10 points。除了抽點，我們也將不定期地進行課堂中的小組討
論（包括兩次的電影欣賞在內），每組的discussion facilitator
將獲得extra的參與分數5 points。
2. 心得寫作，20 % (100 points):
兩篇三到五頁的心得寫作 (each 50 points; one is due on
4/20, the other on 6/15)。寫作形式以選擇本學期之指定嬝炊颭
獻一篇為主題，先簡單地summarize 文章內容以及主要論點，並討
論此篇文章和上課內容所介紹之概念的相關性，然後書寫文章讀後
感或是應用相關概念或文章內容，來討論個人生活經驗或是某一社
會現象。
3. 期中考 (4/13)，20 % (100 points):分為簡答題和申論
題兩部分，旨在評量同學是否了解上課所述之概念，以及應用社會
心理學知識來分析社會現象的能力。
4. 期末考 (6/8)，20 % (100 points):同期中考方式。
5. 小組報告，30 % (150 points): 5-6人一組，選擇一個和
本課程相關之主題進行研究，於3/9 的課堂上報告研究題目以及進
行計畫和分工，並繳交研究大綱一份（三頁以內，30 points）；研
究進行過程中須繳交兩份進度報告( one is due on 3/30, the
other on 5/11，均以兩頁為限，各10 points)，說明研究進行狀
況，所遇困難 (if any) 以及初步發現(if any)；於6/22繳交期末
報告（5000字左右，50 points），並在課堂上進行口頭報告。另
外，為避免free riders，小組內的peer evaluation也將作為個人
的評分參考 (50 points)。
6. Class Policies:
A. Students are responsible for all announcements and
information given in
class.
B. I will not discuss grades prior to or at the end of the
class. If you believe a
grade is incorrect, you must discuss it with me
during our office hours by
appointment. I will not change grades unless an
evident mistake occurs. “Earn
it, don’t ask for it!” is my grade
policy.
C. Additional readings and handouts will be distributed
throughout the semester,
but I will carry these to class one time only. If you
miss class that day, you will
have to pick up the readings or handouts distributed.
They will be in a box at
the office of Sociology Department.
D. All assignments must be completed on time unless you
have serious illness
(with the doctor’s note). Any late work with a
legitimate excuse will lose five
points per day thereafter on the grade of your
assignments. Make-up exams
will be given for those with legitimate excuses, but
each such exam will be
given one time only and at my convenience. In
addition, I will be leaving for
the U.S. on 6/25 to attend a conference, so no late
assignments, with
legitimate excuses, will be accepted after 6/24.
